BBB: Big Beautiful Bridge Coming Soon

The UT pedestrian bridge connecting campus and South Knoxville is officially coming soon.

The city announced today they have received a $24.7 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to get this bad boy erected.

Giggity.

“We are so excited to have secured the next round of funding to make the South Knoxville Pedestrian Bridge a reality,” said Mayor Indya Kincannon. “The federal RAISE grant, coupled with the $20 million from the state, will now propel this project to the next stage."

Big news for the south waterfront. Looks cool to me.

Based on the rendering here, it appears that the bridge will connect right in front of the basketball arena, which by the time it’s built I assume will also spit you out right into the “Danny District” of entertainment where there will be plenty of restaurant and bar options.

I’m more interested in the south side of the bridge. Hopefully this area will have a lot of parking as well as more restaurant and bar options.
