Arkansas Just Won Their First Conference Game of John Calipari’s Tenure
By Clayton Kilgore
Well, it finally happened.
John Calipari exorcised the demons and rallied to beat Georgia at home. After a furious second half comeback last night, capped by a bailout call with 1.8 seconds left, the Arkansas Razorbacks now sit at a robust 1-5 in conference play. Yes, you read that right.
Announcers were describing it as a “must-win contest” in mid-January, which goes to show how sluggish Arkansas has been.
This is a momentous win for Calipari who has struggled to find his footing in Fayetteville and just lost Boogie Fland, an important offensive element who was averaging 15.1 points per game.
It doesn’t get any easier, either.
The SEC will collectively keep beating up on one another, low stress wins are hard to come by, and the $7 million that he’s being paid just isn’t worth it so far.
I’ll say it: Consider Calipari’s seat warm, even after a much-needed win. They’re not paying John Calipari to rebuild.
Sidenote: I LOVE that Arkansas fans demanded that the midcourt logo be the slurpy hog. A choice so insane I think I respect it.
