Amplifying the Sound: The ‘Piped In Crowd Noise’ Saga Continued
By Tucker Harlin
The idea extra crowd noise is piped into Neyland Stadium has become a hot topic of controversy on the internet.
It first came to light on Tuesday when a clip of Crimson Tide Sports Network play-by-play announcer Chris Stewart mentioning “piped in crowd noise” surfaced on X.
Stewart addressed the situation Wednesday. However, instead of claiming his comment was in the wrong place at the wrong time, Stewart said he should’ve used the word “amplified” instead.
“It was extremely loud and it absolutely adds to the noise level…”

This comment drew mixed reactions across social media.
Some closer to the Alabama camp voiced sentiments involving the field level speakers pumping in crowd noise. Those speakers are meant to amplify the Pride of the Southland band over the crowd in order for the crowd to hear it.
X community notes have this verified.

National media members have defended Tennessee amid these allegations.
I've walked by those 100 times during games. Never heard crowd noise from them. https://t.co/XbcBx5eqp0
