It’s Election Day in America and all around the nation people are going out to cast their votes. This article isn’t about the Presidental election, rather about an election within the Tennessee program.
So, instead of us talking about voting for Donald Trump, Joe Biden, or anyone else you could write-in — we are asking who you’d vote for if the University of Tennessee held a Presidental election. Many of you are probably at the polling station currently or already voted. No matter what candidate you’re voting for, we as Tennessee fans know that after today that Tennessee sports will still stand even if half the country is burned down. It’s important to vote and as Americans you should exercise your right. But what if you had to choose one of Tennessee’s most beloved coaches to be the president? Who would be your ideal candidate?
The obvious choice is Tennessee men’s head coach, Rick Barnes. He is not only a dynamic coach on the court but he’s a terrific person overall. Barnes didn’t earn his nickname “Deacon Barnes” for nothing, as he does serve the great people in Knoxville in the local church.
He also took this program from the ashes and brought them to the top. Like much of this country no matter what side you fall on, we can all agree it needs some work. Barnes took a bunch of 2 and 3-star recruits that nobody have even heard of and turned them into national contenders. So why couldn’t Barnes take the no names of the country and whip them into winning shape? Can I get USA chant started?
Also, I think we all can agree that the Tennessee fanbase is probably one of the most impatient and dysfunctional ones in the country. So, not only did Barnes bring us from the ashes, he brought us together. Nobody cared whatsoever about basketball through the Cuonzo and Donnie Tyndall days, really. Barnes took a fanbase solely focused on football and women’s basketball mostly, reconstructed it and brought us together.
So Barnes being president could really bring us all together, because now than ever we really need it. For example, he brought the fanbase from averaging almost under half capacity at home games to almost sell outs every game, even the sucky games against smaller schools. Not even to mention athletic director Phillip Fulmer would more than likely would be the Vice President.
So remember in 2024 vote #BarnesFulmer2024! Go Vols!
