Report: Mike Leach ‘working on deal’ for Tennessee job

This week has officially been dubbed Hella-crazy-who-knows-what Coaching Search Week.

I just keep waiting for Jeff Probst to pop out of a bush with a microphone and declare “THIS WEEK ON SURVIVOR:” with news about the Tennessee coaching search.

If he did it tonight, it’d be even more perfect, because it seems like John Currie had a hidden immunity idol.

This news comes on the heels of rumors that Tennessee was interested in former Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin, but others had said the Vols showed interest in Leach.

This comes on the heels of AtoZ Sports’ report that Currie had lunch with Leach in Los Angeles today. So, is this really happening? (This is not a scheduled sentence)

Leach is 122-80 overall as a head coach, but has made his name known by taking lesser-talented teams and leading them to successful seasons, like in 2008 when he helped Texas Tech win its first Big 12 division crown since 1994.

The Red Raiders never finished a season below .500, making a bowl game in each of Leach’s years there. At Washington State, Leach took a program that had won nine games in four years before him to a 9-4 record in just three years.

He’s known for prolific quarterbacks, fun press conferences, and he’d be a breath of fresh air in Knoxville.
