Tennessee Duggs and the Vols will travel to Pasadena, Cal. to take on the Virginia Tech Hokies for the National Title in the 2018 Rose Bowl at 8:37 pm ET tonight.

Tonight’s Bowl Matchup against the Virginia Tech Hokies will only be the Vols third trip to the Rose Bowl in program history, but it is the first appearance since 1945.
Previous Tennessee teams have not fared too well in the Granddaddy of them all. Both of the Vols previous trips have been blowout losses to USC by the scores of 14-0 and 25-0 on New Years Day in 1940 and 1945, respectively.
In the 1940 and 1945 games, General Robert Neyland led the Vols onto the field in Pasadena. Tonight, Gus Duggerton will lead Tennessee into the same stadium, but will he be able to pull off something General Robert Neyland couldn’t?
Previous Meetings
The current record between the two teams stands at a 6-3 advantage for Tennessee. However, six of the nine previous matchups occurred before 1938. The border battle was renewed as UT and VT split bowl game victories in 1994 and 2009.
The most recent meeting between the Vols and Hokies was the Battle at Bristol, which saw the Vols rattle off a 45-3 scoring run to beat the Hokies 45-17.
