Watch Phil Mickelson have a little fun by hitting a flop shot over fan at The Open

One of golf’s most significant events begins Thursday as the PGA TOUR heads over the pond for the 147th playing of The Open Championship. Carnoustie Championship Course in Angus, Scotland gets the honors of hosting this prestigious tournament.

For golf fans, there are a lot of headlines heading into this year’s tournament. Can Jordan Spieth defend his title? Spieth was the winner of the 2017 Open Championship as he held off a late charge from Matt Kuchar. Could it be Rickie time? He does love playing links style courses. Or can Brooks Koepka win the U.S. Open and The Open in the same season?

And, of course, you can’t talk golf without talking about Tiger Woods. Woods a.k.a. Big Cat, is making his 12th start this season on the PGA TOUR. He has been playing well this season. However, the wins aren’t there. If he were able to win on Sunday, the golf world would.

But, that isn’t the reason for this post. Earlier in the week, Phil Mickelson decided he wanted to have a little fun with a fan by showing off some of his spectacular flop shot skills. Mickelson is widely known as one of the most creative short game players the game has ever seen. Some of the shots he has pulled off with his lob wedge in hand are jaw-dropping. Take a look at a video from The Open’s twitter account.

What are the chances that Phil Mickelson mishits the ball and drills that guy right in the face? 1/1000? Is that too low? After all, he is a professional golfer and a Hall of Framer at that. So, would it be more like 1/10000?

Tough to tell but it was a neat way of getting fans involved with the players. It goes to show why people love to support PGA TOUR players and events. It’s kind of like the SEC Conference; it just means more.
