Preds Continue To Roll, Set New Franchise Record with 111 Points

Last night, the Nashville Predators continued their record-breaking season with another victory, their 50th of the campaign. San Jose fought valiantly, but the Preds held the Sharks off for the win, 5-3. With the two points combined with Winnipeg’s loss, Nashville has widened their lead in the Central Division to seven points. Ultimately, though, the big news was that Nashville earned its 111th point of the season, a franchise record.

The previous record was 110 points, set during the 2006-07 season. Despite the high point total, Nashville finished second in the division, three points behind the Detroit Red Wings. They were led by former star winger Paul Kariya, who finished the regular season with 76 points. Behind him were longtime Predators J.P. Dumont and David Legwand. Still, with all the firepower that team had, the Preds were bounced in the first round of the playoffs by the Sharks, losing the series 4-1.

There’s another record in reach for this team with five games to go. During the 2006-07 season, Nashville won a total of 51 games. Right now, Nashville (50-16-11) is only a pair of wins away from making another mark in the franchise’s history books.

It won’t be easy, though. Nashville plays three of those remaining five contests on the road. It starts with a relatively easy challenge at home against Buffalo on Saturday, but is followed by a few Eastern Conference powerhouses. It will certainly be a difficult task to end the season. Regardless, there is no reason to doubt that this Predators team can’t get it done — the group will be remembered by history regardless.
