Three Tennessee football players were arrested in Knoxville after an incident occurred on campus on Tuesday, Mar. 9, according to ESPN via University of Tennessee police documents.
All three players have been suspended by the Tennessee athletics department for further investigation.
The three players listed are second-year linebacker Martavius French, as well as class of 2021 recruits linebacker Aaron Willis and defensive tackle Isaac Washington.
Tennessee has released a statement on the situation, according to Adam Rittenberg of ESPN.
“We are aware of an incident that occurred at Stokely Hall involving football student-athletes,” the statement reads. “The individuals involved in the incident have been suspended indefinitely from football activities pending further review of the matter by the University.”
The Police Report
According to the University police report, the three Tennessee football players were among five individuals that were arrested Tuesday. All of the individuals involved were charged with simple possession and unlawful drug paraphernalia.
The incident at Stokely Hall, a residence dorm on the Universities campus, was described as an assault and burglary by a group of four or five males in the police report.
According to ESPN via the police safety notice that was released following the incident on Tuesday, “a Stokely Hall resident was assaulted by one man, while ‘three to four other males entered the residence and went to another room in the apartment where it was believed they took items belonging to the victim.’ The victim and a roommate could not identify the group that entered the room.”
In his first season at Tennessee, French did not see any time on the playing field. The linebacker is originally from Memphis, TN.
Additionally, Willis and Washington were both a part of the 2020 Tennessee recruiting class. Both have also only been enrolled at Tennessee since Jan. 20, according to 247Sports.
Willis was a four-star linebacker recruit from Colonial Heights, VA. Meanwhile, Washington was formerly a three-star defensive tackle recruit from Pilot Mountain, NC.
