Mike Leach Continues To Dominate The Summer With Belly Flop Video

Washington State Football/Twitter

If any of you readers are even occasional purveyors of social media, you have most likely come across the #HotGirlSummer trend that was inspired by Houston-based rapper Megan Thee Stallion. You can read more into it HERE, but just to give a synopsis, Megan says of it:

“It’s about women and men being unapologetically them, just having a good-ass time, hyping up their friends, doing you”

So both women AND men are able to get on this trend. Well, folks, no one has been embodying this message more than Washington State head coach and all-around Most Interesting Man in the World, Mike Leach.

What an icon.

This offseason, like most for Leach, has consisted of him living his best life prior to starting his eighth campaign with the Cougars. Here’s a quick recap:

He Taught A Seminar On “Insurgent Warfare And Football Strategies”

Joel Anderson/ESPN

Remember back in high school when the head football coach had to teach a class (usually P.E., history, health in my case) and most students would want in due to the class being a little more lenient? How much did you actually learn? This wasn’t the case in the spring when Leach co-taught a seminar that combined the strategies of insurgent guerrillas with that of the Air Raid and other football strategies.

The class was, of course, in very high demand at Wazzu, but the size was capped at 40 students who were selected based on their essay answers to two questions:

  • Whether or not they think the wishbone offense would work in the NFL
  • If the British strategy in the Malayan insurgency would work today

I would pay an absurd amount of money to hear Leach teach any subject: finite math, microeconomics, history of Jazz, underwater basket-weaving, etc. Maybe education is in the Pirate’s future post-coaching?

He Traveled The World

Leach spent a good portion of the summer travelling to must-see destinations. Among those were:

Petra in Jordan

Tel Aviv

Leach isn’t the only coach to go overseas for the sparse amount of leisure time his job allows, but he certainly makes the most out of it.

Shared His Favorite Memes

Yes, Leach is basically your uncle who loves to make off-color jokes at Thanksgiving, but he is OUR uncle!

He Was Featured On E:60

Last month, Leach was featured on ESPN’s newsmagazine program E:60 to get an inside look at the man, himself. Among the highlights (of which I strongly encourage you to view) are Leach responding to Jeremy Schapp’s question of what he would want his obituary to say:

Also, there’s a look at what Leach and wife did for their honeymoon:

He Spoke On What Almost Was With Tennessee

You’re reading a Tennessee-centric website, so I don’t need to go in-depth about the debacle that was the 2017 Tennessee coaching search. But, just for context, soon-to-be-fired athletic director John Currie met with Leach in Los Angeles in late November 2017, while Currie went “rouge.”

Leach, who appeared on the Paul Finebaum Show last week, described what happened during that time.

“Shortly after that, there was a coup d’etat at the University of Tennessee, and it was. It was a coup d’etat. You can call it what you want, and I hope I don’t hurt anybody’s feelings at Tennessee, but it’s a fact. It was like something out of Shakespeare. All the sudden, they call home the AD, and en route they off him. Then the king, or the chancellor, who orders the offing of the AD because the guards are around him demanding that it be done in order to secure a position. Shortly after that, they off the president. Then the off the very chancellor who set it all in motion, allegedly. There was a whole power shift. Anyway, hopefully the ground for the good people at Tennessee is more stable now.”

I think about what could’ve been every day with the Pirate in charge on Rocky Top. At least he’s wishing us well. . .

Keep doing you, coach.
