Jon Gilbert takes Southern Miss AD job, no longer a candidate at Tennessee

Another day, another twist in the Tennessee athletic director saga. Based on John Brice‘s reporting, Tennessee assistant athletic director Jon Gilbert will take the athletic director position at Southern Miss. He will take Mike Ward, another Dave Hart hire, with him.

What this means for Tennessee is that no current members of the athletic administration are in consideration for the Tennessee athletic director job. We’ll have more on that later, but this may mean that Tennessee’s AD hire is a departure philosophically from Dave Hart and crew.

Brice also reminds that Chris Fuller, a senior Tennessee athletic executive, left for Syracuse last year. Tennessee seems to be preparing for a complete overhaul of the athletic department, which should be taken as a good sign. As we’ve covered earlier this year, Tennessee’s disastrous trends in sports rankings across the board have become a major issue under the Dave Hart regime.

We’ll have more on that later at FOX Sports Knoxville.
