Jeremy Pruitt met with the media on Monday afternoon to discuss the upcoming game against the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday night and getting back to the basics.
Last week during the off week, Pruitt made it a point of emphasis to get his group back into Fall camp mode for a few days. The Vols have been troubling in a few areas over the past few games, especially tackling.
Jeremy Pruitt brought up the need for depth at running back for the Vols. Dee Beckwith continues to get work with the group. Len’Neth Whitehead will not play this season after suffering a shoulder injury during practice last week. The Vols are hoping to go ahead with surgery to have him ready for Spring practice.
In other news, Jeremy Pruitt said that Keyshawn Lawrence moved to the STAR position during the off week. The Vols lack playmakers at that spot, as Shamburger has been hit and miss for most of the season. Pruitt said that Lawrence will possibly get an opportunity to play this Saturday against Arkansas.
As we reported last week, Bryson Eason has moved to outside linebacker, and Kwauze “Pakk” Garland has moved to inside linebacker. Morven Joseph is working with both groups.
There have been a lot of chatter about leadership on this team, something a few players have brought up themselves. Jeremy Pruitt was asked about the bye week and players stepping up from a vocal standpoint.
“I’ve felt like all along; we’ve had good leadership and energy.”
The Vols are still waiting for their Covid test results, which Pruitt said: “Should be coming in at any time now.”
Tennessee will be back on the practice field Monday afternoon as they continue their preparations for Arkansas.
