Saturday the Vols will travel to South Carolina to take on the Gamecocks. Jarrett Gurantano will be under center to start the 2020 season.
I’ve never seen a fan base hate a player as much as Volnation hates Guarantano. And, while some of that hate is justified, JG isn’t all bad, especially against South Carolina.
Last season, Guarantano completed 11 passes on 19 attempts for 229 yards and two touchdowns.
Even the season before saw a JG that was in control of the game. The Vols just came up a second short.
Guarantano lost his safety blanket in Jauan Jennings to the NFL Draft. However, Tennessee loaded up on talented WRs. There should be a lot of playmakers on the field.
Will Muschamp is a great defensive coach and probably knows all about JG’s struggles against zone coverage. However, if Tennessee can find those one-on-one man matchups, I have confidence JG and Josh Palmer can hook up multiple times.
I believe Guarantano will ball out tomorrow.
That isn’t an overreaction or a bold take. JG will be better this season and will start against South Carolina.
The Gamecocks lost talent to the NFL and the secondary isn’t great. The offensive line for Tennessee should be a strength and should give JG all the time in the world to find the open man.
Write this down…
Jarrett Guarantano will throw for over 300 yards with three touchdowns. Yep, three touchdowns.
Guarantano will be much better with another year learning from Jim Chaney.
