When Tennessee travels down to Auburn, Ala. on Saturday night to take on the Tigers, Jarrett Guarantano will be the Vols’ starting quarterback.
The depth chart could change, but it appears Jeremy Pruitt is going to ride with his guy. After all, Guarantano gives the Vols the best chance to win. Well, at least according to Pruitt.
It’s quite baffling that Guarantano is getting the start for multiple reasons. I know he’s had time to rest after leaving the Arkansas game due to injury, but he wasn’t the best option at quarterback in that game.
The best option was Harrison Bailey, and get this: he’s listed as third on the depth chart with J.T. Shrout, who will never play another down at Tennessee.
How can any coach continue to start Guarantano, and how can Brian Maurer be listed as second on the depth chart?
If you weren’t out on Pruitt before, I’m not sure what you’re waiting for. This dude is a certified clown.
Maybe Pruitt is right; maybe Guarantano does give the team the best chance at winning. But, if the best he has is 13 points against Arkansas, then can we, for the love of God, play someone else?
Bailey threw for a team-high 65 yards on 6-of-9 passing against Arkansas. Why not let him have the reigns for the rest of the season?
I’d say by now most fans are out on Pruitt, but maybe playing Bailey will buy him some time. Don’t hold your breath, though.
