Is Georgia The Most Overrated Program In College Football?

When I think of obnoxious and annoying fanbases, the first one that comes straight to my mind are the Georgia Bulldogs.

For some odd reason, Dawg fans love to talk trash and talk a big game like as if they are Alabama. Recently on Twitter, they have been doing just that towards Vol fans about their recruiting success. Constantly stating how Tennessee is “irrelevant” and how that half of our recruiting class is consisted of three stars.

Well for a team that is so irrelevant, they do love to talk about the Vols. Don’t get me wrong, this article is no disrespect towards Georgia at all. They’re a decent program.

But let’s look more into their program. They have managed to develop some really great players over the years such as Matt Stafford, AJ Green, Nick Chubb, and Todd Gurley just to name a few. Despite this, they still can’t win anything that means a damn.

The amount of talent Georgia has racked in over the last five years is astonishing. From 2015-19, the average ranking for their recruiting class is 3.6. Let’s compare that to LSU, Clemson, and Alabama in that same time span.

LSU’s average recruiting ranking from 2015-19 is 6.8, Clemson’s is 10.6 and Alabama’s is 1.8.

So what do LSU, Clemson and Alabama have in common during this time span? They all have won a national title, despite Georgia having a higher recruiting average than LSU and Clemson.

But let’s not even talk about recent times, let’s take it back a step further. Georgia’s last National Championship was 1980. Yes, you read that correctly, 1980.

To give you an idea how long ago that really was, this is what the world looked like the last time Georgia won a national title:

  • Jimmy Carter was president.
  • Czechoslovakia was still a country.
  • Michael Jackson’s Thriller hadn’t been recorded
  • MTV didn’t even exist yet.

I mean, how embarrassing is that? If I was a Georgia fan, I would be so embarrassed. To have all that talent and still can’t win anything must be quite sad.
