Tennessee Picks Up Impressive Tight End Prospect For The 2019 Class

On Friday, Tennessee snagged a commitment from one of this biggest sleeper recruits in the country: Jackson Lowe. The 3-star tight end from Georgia chose the Vols over Clemson, Auburn and Alabama after being on three visits to Knoxville since the beginning of 2018.

After playing alongside No. 1 recruit Trevor Lawrence in 2017, Lowe gained valuable playing time with a college-level quarterback, and should be helpful in Knoxville in the future.

However, Lowe’s lower ranking does not come from stats or solely playing with such a great quarterback. He can do everything in the game well. At 6 feet 5 inches tall and 242 pounds, Lowe is already built for the next level. With 6-foot-6-inch, 252-pound Ethan Wolf headed to the NFL, Lowe has the potential to make an impact early in his career like Wolf. In 2017, Lowe showed just how big of a red-zone threat he can be, also like Wolf. After accumulating six touchdowns and 344 yards on 16 receptions, he shows just how lethal his size can be.

Lowe has safe hands and is a reliable target, but the most impressive part of his game is his tenacious blocking. Since he has such a great frame for the tight end position, he consistently shows in his film how he can down block defensive lineman in the run game and take control of the line of scrimmage.

Lowe has the potential to be a great addition to the Vols’ 2019 class, and he definitely has the chance to come in his first year and take over the tight end spot from anybody in front of him. Even as the 2019 class begins to add more recruits over the summer and fall, keep Lowe in the back of your mind as a potential breakout player in 2019.
