March Madness is here. Join our bracket challenge for a chance to win some stuff. Password is foxsports.
Brackets dominate the conversation, but many neglect the opportunities to make some money outside of your pools. Don’t worry, I got you. Below, you will find the gambling advice of someone who knows very little about college basketball.
FIRST ROUND
Take the underdogs to cover the spread in 8/9 match-ups. I’m looking at you, Va Tech 5.5, Northwestern +2.5, Seton Hall +1. I’m sorry, Miami. I know you are the underdog, but one of my rules of life is to not bet against Tom Izzo in the tournament.
Always ride with the 7 seeds that are favored over 10 seeds. What’s up, Michigan -2.5, Saint Mary’s -4.5, South Carolina -1.5
And everyone loves MTSU -1 just because, right? I went there for a semester, so I may just be betting with my heart.
Prop Bets
Florida Gulf Coast to make the Sweet 16 +1900
Do you remember Dunk City? Yes, I remember Dunk City. I didn’t watch Florida State play this season, but last I checked, they are a football school. And they don’t call themselves Dunk City. And I never even remember them making the Sweet 16. I remember Florida Gulf Coast making the Sweet 16.
When they beat the Seminoles, they draw either Maryland or Xavier, both of whom are trending downward.
13-14-15-16 seeds over 3.5 wins +3500
This is the best bet I’ve ever made in my life. Imagine how fun it is going to be to root for upsets without worrying about picking the right ones. A 16 seed isn’t going to win. But we can get four out of the other 12 games. Always bet against the Big 12.
12-13-14-15 seeds over 5.5 wins +3950
Read above, except in this one, we do not have to worry about 16 seeds. Instead, we get to take a group of dangerous 12 seeds and hope that they win at least two games to make this worth while. Ideally, they could steal even a third (or fourth) game.
Final 4 total sum under 7.5 +366
My Final Four is Gonzaga (1 seed), Duke (2 seed), UCLA (3 seed), Kansas (1 seed).
Last I checked, 7 is under 7.5.
Final Advice
It’s easy to fall into the trap of betting on teams to win the championship before the tournament starts, but DON’T DO IT. Let’s take that money and put it to better use. I advise taking whatever amount you want to invest on your champion and betting on their money line game by game and let it roll over. You’ll make more money in the long run, trust me. And be disciplined.
