Former Tennessee star Scotty Hopson is expected to sign a 10-day contract with the Dallas Mavericks, according to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon. The 28-year old guard has been playing for EuroCup’s Galatasaray in Turkey this season and is averaging 11.5 points per game.
The Mavs plan to sign swingman Scotty Hopson to a 10-day contract in the coming days, according to league sources. Hopson, 28, a former Tennessee star, has been playing in Europe. https://t.co/7bcG2hqQmI

Hopson’s last stint in the NBA came during the 2014-15 season when the Cleveland Cavaliers called him up from their NBA G-League affiliate, the Canton Charge. Hopson appeared in just two games and registered just one point before he was reassigned to the Charge.
After being traded several times the following offseason, Hopson found himself back in the G-League, this time with the Sioux Falls Skyforce. In a 2015 win over the Reno Bighorns, Hopson set two Skyforce records, scoring 52 points on 21 made field goals. Hopson then elected to leave the G-League to go back overseas, playing in Spain, China, Croatia, Israel and Turkey.
The Mavs, who have a road back-to-back the next two nights, likely wait until next week to make this official.

As MacMahon points out, due to the Mavericks schedule, they will likely have to announce the roster change next week.
This may be Hopson’s last NBA shot and the Mavericks are an interesting landing spot. Dallas is currently No. 14 in the Western Conference and owner Mark Cuban has already announced his plans for the second half of the season, so Hopson may get some decent playing time.
Last season, former Indiana guard Yogi Ferrell signed a 10-day contract with Dallas and scored 32 points including nine three pointers in a game against the Portland Trailblazers. Because of his performance, the Mavericks signed Ferrell to a multi-year deal and he is still on roster.
As Ferrell proved, if Hopson can make the best of these 10 days, it can turn him into a solidified NBA player.
