Beloved VFL and current New Orleans Saints running back tweeted Friday morning that he’d won the fan vote for the 2017 Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year. Kamara is coming off a phenomenal rookie year, one in which he and Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt were recently named Co-Offensive Rookie of the Year by the Pro Football Writers of America.

Kamara, a third round draft pick by the Saints, led all rookies with 81 receptions, the third-most by a rookie running back in NFL history. Kamara also led all rookies with 14 total touchdowns was second in total yards with 1,554.
His insane numbers don’t stop there —he ha d 120 rushes for 728 yards and eight touchdowns, 81 receptions for 826 yards and eight touchdowns, and let’s not forget the franchise-record 106 yard kick return in week 17. Kamara was also one of six Saints players named to the Pro Bowl. The electric rookie is the second rookie ever to record at least five rushing touchdowns, five receiving touchdowns, and a kickoff-return touchdown (Gale Sayers, 1965).
The AP NFL Rookie of the Year award will be announced Saturday during the NFL Honors event.
