#1 Tennessee Continues To Deliver The Knockout Punch

Tennessee only went 4-4 from the FT line and still scored over ninety points against Texas A&M, tonight. You have to wonder when this squad will lose a game again with those kind of numbers. Tennessee had five players in double-digits tonight, with both Grant Williams and Jordan Bone posting double-doubles. Williams finished the night with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Bone contributed 18 points and 10 assists. Tennessee has the ability to score from so many different angles that it is hard for opposing teams to focus on just one player alone, which is something this team has taken full advantage of.

Tennessee is still having a bit of trouble guarding off the high-ball screen and figuring out the switch when it comes to defending the three-point shot. Texas A&M going 12-27 from behind the arc tonight proves that. But the fact remains that each team the Vols have faced this season have tried to find one weakness and take advantage of it. Shooting 44% from the perimeter would scare a lot of teams, but not this one. Every team that Tennessee has faced this season have tried to knock the Vols out of sync, either from hacking in the paint or drilling shots from outside. But these men don’t budge.

Tennessee shot 64% from the field tonight on 40-62 shooting, along with a season high 28 assists and only eight turnovers. Those type numbers are the reason why this team is so hard to tame. If there is one thing we are learning as this season rolls along, it’s that the SEC is a very tough league. The Vols will continue getting each teams best shot at trying to knockoff this talented group. Unfortunately for the opposing teams on the Tennessee schedule, though, this group loves a good challenge and feeds off the intensity each game brings.

The Vols prepare for another shot on Tuesday, as Cuonzo Martin and his Missouri Tigers come to Knoxville for a late night showdown. Hard to imagine that one will fly under the radar.
